The Best Drink Tracker Apps in 2026: Count, Cut Down or Just Remember
Drink trackers fall into two camps: apps that help you drink less and apps that help you remember nights out. Both are useful, and they're very different. Here are the best of each.
If you want to drink less
MyDrinkaware
The UK alcohol charity Drinkaware's free tracker: log drinks to see units and calories, set goals, mark drink-free days and see how your week compares.
- Platforms
- iPhone, Android · Website
- Price
- Free
- Best for
- Anyone mainly trying to keep an eye on units or cut down.
- Watch out
- Not social, and nothing about where you were or who you were with.
MyDrinkaware is made by the UK alcohol charity Drinkaware, it's free, and it's built around units, calories, goals and drink-free days. If your aim is fewer drinks, start here. In the US, the NIAAA's free Rethinking Drinking site has similar calculators.
If you want to remember nights out
ontap
Log a beer in one tap from a home or lock screen widget, with the bar you're at. See which friends are out on a shared map, race your friends in squads, earn 30+ badges and become Mayor of your local. Every month you get Last Call, a recap worth sharing.
- Platforms
- iPhone · App Store
- Price
- Free (an optional ontap Pro is coming)
- Best for
- Groups of friends who go out together and want logging to take one tap.
- Watch out
- No beer-by-beer ratings or tasting notes, and no Android app yet.
ontap tracks where you were, who you were with and what the month looked like, and turns it into a recap and a bit of friendly competition with your friends. It's about the night, not the number.
Untappd
The best-known beer check-in app: scan or search a specific beer, rate it, add notes and photos, and collect badges. Huge beer database and venue menus from bars that use Untappd for Business.
- Platforms
- iPhone, Android, web · Website
- Price
- Free, with an optional paid tier (Untappd Insiders) for extra stats and badges
- Best for
- Beer geeks who want to rate every individual beer they try.
- Watch out
- Logging means finding the exact beer each time, which is slow on a night out. Less about seeing which friends are out right now.
A note on drinking sensibly
The UK guideline is no more than 14 units a week, spread over several days. That's about six pints of 4% lager. Use our units calculator to check any drink. Whichever app you use, a tracker is most useful when it's honest.
ontap is the free iPhone app for logging beers in one tap and seeing which friends are out.

Is there a free app to track alcohol units?
Yes. MyDrinkaware is free and counts units and calories, with goals and drink-free days.
Can a drink tracker help me cut down?
Tracking makes your drinking visible, which helps many people cut down. Apps built for it, like MyDrinkaware, add goals and reminders. If you're worried, talk to your GP or doctor.
