The 6 Best Beer Tracking Apps in 2026

"Tracking beer" means different things: rating every beer you try, counting what you drink, or remembering where you went and who with. These are the six best apps for each, as of 2026.

Full disclosure: we make ontap, so it's on this list. We've tried to be fair about what every app does well and where ours isn't the right fit.

How we chose

We looked at how fast it is to log a beer on a night out, what the app does with that log (stats, recaps, ratings, friends), whether it's free, and whether it's still actively maintained in 2026. RateBeer would once have made this list, but it shut down in February 2025.

The best beer tracking apps

Best for nights out with friends

1. ontap

Log a beer in one tap from a home or lock screen widget, with the bar you're at. See which friends are out on a shared map, race your friends in squads, earn 30+ badges and become Mayor of your local. Every month you get Last Call, a recap worth sharing.

Platforms
iPhone · App Store
Price
Free (an optional ontap Pro is coming)
Best for
Groups of friends who go out together and want logging to take one tap.
Watch out
No beer-by-beer ratings or tasting notes, and no Android app yet.

ontap's trick is the widget: tap once on your home or lock screen and the beer is logged with the bar you're at, without opening the app. Everything else is built on that log: a map of which friends are out, squads that race each other week by week, badges, Mayors for the person who logs most at a spot, and a monthly Last Call recap.

Best for rating beers

2. Untappd

The best-known beer check-in app: scan or search a specific beer, rate it, add notes and photos, and collect badges. Huge beer database and venue menus from bars that use Untappd for Business.

Platforms
iPhone, Android, web · Website
Price
Free, with an optional paid tier (Untappd Insiders) for extra stats and badges
Best for
Beer geeks who want to rate every individual beer they try.
Watch out
Logging means finding the exact beer each time, which is slow on a night out. Less about seeing which friends are out right now.

If you care about the difference between two hazy IPAs, Untappd is still the standard. You search for the exact beer, rate it out of five, and build up a record of every style you've tried. It's slower to log than a tap, which is why many people use Untappd for interesting beers and something quicker for everything else.

Best for keeping count

3. MyDrinkaware

The UK alcohol charity Drinkaware's free tracker: log drinks to see units and calories, set goals, mark drink-free days and see how your week compares.

Platforms
iPhone, Android · Website
Price
Free
Best for
Anyone mainly trying to keep an eye on units or cut down.
Watch out
Not social, and nothing about where you were or who you were with.

4. BeerMenus

Find which bars, restaurants and shops near you pour or sell a particular beer, follow beers and venues for alerts, and keep a simple log of what you drank. Strongest in the US.

Platforms
iPhone, Android, web · Website
Price
Free
Best for
Hunting down a specific beer nearby (mainly US).
Watch out
Light on social features; coverage outside the US is thinner.

5. Pint Please

A Finnish-born beer rating app: rate beers, note where you had them and discover new ones, with brewery and pub pages.

Platforms
iPhone (check Google Play for Android) · Website
Price
Free (in-app purchases)
Best for
A smaller, Europe-flavoured alternative to Untappd for rating beers.
Watch out
Much smaller community than Untappd.

6. Swarm (Foursquare)

Check in to any place, from pubs to airports, keep a searchable history of everywhere you've been and see friends' check-ins. Took over Foursquare City Guide's features in 2024.

Platforms
iPhone, Android · Website
Price
Free
Best for
People who want a diary of every place they go, not just bars.
Watch out
No beer counting, recaps or drinking-specific features.
