The Best Apps to See Where Your Friends Are (2026)
Zenly closed in 2023 and nothing quite replaced it. But if you mainly want to know which friends are out tonight and where, there are good options. Here's how they compare.
Two kinds of "where are my friends"
Live location (a dot that follows your friend everywhere) is what Find My, Snap Map and Google Maps do. Who's out (friends share where they are when they're out, by logging at a bar) is what ontap and Swarm do. For nights out, the second is often what you actually want: you see who's at the pub without everyone tracking everyone all week.
1. ontap
Log a beer in one tap from a home or lock screen widget, with the bar you're at. See which friends are out on a shared map, race your friends in squads, earn 30+ badges and become Mayor of your local. Every month you get Last Call, a recap worth sharing.
- Platforms
- iPhone · App Store
- Price
- Free (an optional ontap Pro is coming)
- Best for
- Groups of friends who go out together and want logging to take one tap.
- Watch out
- No beer-by-beer ratings or tasting notes, and no Android app yet.
2. Find My (Apple)
Apple's built-in location sharing: share where you are with chosen friends or family, indefinitely or for an hour.
- Platforms
- iPhone (built in)
- Price
- Free
- Best for
- Simple, private location sharing with a few close people.
- Watch out
- No social feed, no venues, nothing beyond a dot on a map.
3. Snap Map (Snapchat)
See friends who share their location on a map inside Snapchat, plus public Stories from around you.
- Platforms
- iPhone, Android
- Price
- Free
- Best for
- Friend groups who already live in Snapchat.
- Watch out
- Location only, and not always real time; nothing about nights out, beers or recaps.
4. Google Maps location sharing
Share your real-time location with chosen contacts from Google Maps, on iPhone or Android, and save lists of pubs to visit.
- Platforms
- iPhone, Android
- Price
- Free
- Best for
- Mixed iPhone/Android groups, and for saving lists of places.
- Watch out
- Not social; you have to set sharing up per person.
5. Swarm (Foursquare)
Check in to any place, from pubs to airports, keep a searchable history of everywhere you've been and see friends' check-ins. Took over Foursquare City Guide's features in 2024.
- Platforms
- iPhone, Android · Website
- Price
- Free
- Best for
- People who want a diary of every place they go, not just bars.
- Watch out
- No beer counting, recaps or drinking-specific features.
Privacy tips
- Share live location only with people you'd trust with your house keys.
- Use time limits ("for one hour") on a night out.
- In ontap, only friends you've added see where you've logged, and you can turn location sharing off at any time.
ontap is the free iPhone app for logging beers in one tap and seeing which friends are out.

What replaced Zenly?
Nothing exactly. Snap Map (from the same owner) took over its role inside Snapchat; Find My and Google Maps cover live sharing. See Zenly alternatives.
Is there an app to see which friends are at the pub?
Yes. ontap shows friends who've logged a beer recently on a shared map, so you can see who's out without constant tracking.
